Description
Help your 8th Grade Pre-Algebra students practice calculating the volume of cylinders with this self-checking digital pixel art activity. Students use the volume formula while working with cylinders where the radius or diameter and the height are given.
If they answer correctly a portion of the mystery picture will appear. If they get it wrong, the boxes will not be colored in. Students will love guessing what the picture will be!
This activity is perfect for reinforcing how to calculate the volume of a cylinder while keeping students motivated with immediate feedback.
How It Works
Students calculate the volume of each cylinder and enter their answers. Correct answers reveal portions of the pixel art image, while incorrect answers reveal nothing, prompting students to revisit their calculations.
Two versions are included:
-
A self-checking version for practice and review
-
An assessment version without visual feedback
Here is what’s included:
➡️ 8 self-checking problems
➡️ answer key
➡️ 2 two different sheets – a self-checking and an assessment
Why Teachers Love It:
This activity is self-checking, meaning students immediately know if their answers are correct. The pixel art image gradually appears as students solve each problem, keeping them focused while practicing an essential geometry skill.
It also reduces grading time and allows students to work independently.
This pixel art activity will work for both Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel!
MICROSOFT NOTE: Once downloaded to excel, the problem pictures may be distorted based on the device and screen size. After you purchase and download this activity, you can adjust the size of the problem pictures to fit in the boxes before giving it to students.
TIP: Be sure to give your students a copy where they CANNOT edit your original. Be sure to delete the answers before sharing with your students. This will make the picture disappear.
