This Santa tessellation gives students clear practice solving radical equations. Each student completes a triangle and adds it to a collaborative class display. Editable PowerPoint file included.

This festive tessellation helps students practice solving radical equations while creating a collaborative class display. Each Santa triangle includes a radical equation for students to solve. They show their steps inside the beard workspace, check for extraneous solutions, and color their piece. When everyone is done, the class assembles the full Santa tessellation. An editable PowerPoint file is included so you can adjust the equations or add differentiation as needed.

How It Works

Print the PDF or open the editable PowerPoint file to customize the problems. Give each student a Santa triangle. Students isolate the radical, solve the equation, check for extraneous solutions, and show their work inside the piece. After coloring their triangle, students cut it out and join the class to assemble the Santa tessellation on a bulletin board or wall. The answer key supports quick checking and small-group review.

Ways to Use

You can use this activity by giving each student one Santa triangle to solve and color before cutting it out and adding it to the class bulletin board. As the tessellation forms, students compare their radical equations, discuss how they isolated the radical, and check whether their answers worked or were extraneous. The shared display becomes a visual review of radical-equation solving.
